Digging Deep To Find Christmas Enjoyment

Christmas is here!  It’s hard to believe another year has passed.

The last few days have been unexpectedly rough, and so I am beyond thankful we stuck to our convictions and are having a quiet Christmas at home together.

I have to admit, I’m still feeling a bit off from the last few days, but I am also determined to get out of my funk and lift myself back up.

And so, yesterday I went on a hunt for partridge for our Christmas dinner.  Well, after visiting 5 butchers, including 1 specialty shop, I gave up on partridge for this year and settled on a surprise find of Kangaroo as it sounded like an adventurous challenge for two Canadians.  So today is a quiet day at home and a Christmas dinner of Kangaroo.  And if I get my way, there will be snuggling while watching a few Christmas movies like Elf and Love Actually. It should be fun.

Tomorrow, Christmas Day, will be another lazy day at home.  Maybe we’ll find an outdoor skating rink and enjoy some time outdoors together.  Maybe another Christmas movies.  And then, we will be spending the evening with friends for dinner and I get to give her the gift I’ve spent months preparing.  I am so excited to give it to her, I just know she’s going to love it.

And so, while I know my heart may be a little heavy this year as we face yet another Christmas without the light and love of a child, I also know that we will find some enjoyment in our quiet celebration.  It’s exactly what we need right now.

I hope every one else out there finds it within themselves to enjoy their own special festivities, in their own way.  Knowing that many of other will also not have the Christmas they have been dreaming of, I also encourage everyone, myself included, to remember to be kind to yourself and practice self-care.

Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about your bad few days. I really hope Christmas Day is relaxing for you both and that you start to feel a bit more positive soon. I think things are always hard at this time of year because there appears to be excitement everywhere and happiness all around, so if you’re not feeling particularly excited or happy it makes you feel even more isolated.

That’s a great plan to focus on being kind to yourself and Mr MPB. I hope you’re able to start 2016 having had a little rest and recuperation. For now, have a wonderful Christmas x x x

  5. This is such an emotional time of year. I think the best we can do is just get through it with any kind of joy we can find and have hope in our hearts 2016 will be different. Xo

  6. Same here. I was about to write about this empty feeling in my blog. I can absolutely imagine how difficult it is to find happiness for Christmas without the love and giggles of a kid. Don’t lose the hope. I know its easier to be said than done. Hope this blogging will help you to ease your pain.

  7. I too have found myself in a funk around the holidays. But we are doing the same as you, a quiet christmas, just the two of us 🙂 might throw in a hike (it is summer here) and maybe a harry potter movie marathon. I hope you have a lovely day with Mr MPB 🙂

  9. Have a wonderful, relaxing couple of days. I’m glad you’re feeling a little better, and hope you enjoy your time with Mr MPB (which in my opinion sounds much nicer than all that travel and family visiting 😉) X

  10. I know you’ve had a few bad days in a row, but I’m SO HAPPY that you are looking forward to some of the small, more meaningful moments, which I personally feel is the purpose to Christmas 🙂

I hope you have a wonderful day. You deserve it ❤️

    Also, how was the kangaroo?!

  11. Merry Christmas! I hope you are enjoying your quiet, cozy Christmas, and I am excited to hear how the kangaroo turns out. We’re having duck tonight, and had a fit of adventurousness and decided to buy a pheasant for this weekend. Partridge sounds interesting, too! May next Christmas look differently, but may you savor the quiet coziness of what is hopefully the last Christmas just you two. 🙂
