10 Random Things on A Tuesday

  1. Baby MPB never seizes to amaze me.  He can cross a room in 2 seconds simply by rolling.  Weve decided that we require immediate baby proofing.  And I’m officially slightly scared of the next few months, but also very excited!
  2. We love to cook.  So of course, our child currently hates basically all food.  Except pureed meat sauce and spaghetti squash pasta.  This kid is weird.
  3. It feels like all of our friends are moving.  This makes me sad.  And I’m curious, how do we make new friends at this point in our lives?  Do we put out a friends wanted ad?
  4. My work is slow right now and one of my projects has been delayed by about a month or two.  Rather then letting this stress me out, I’m focusing on enjoying this time with Baby MPB.
  5. Even though I said I would not join a gym, I joined a spin studio.  I’m now going three days a week – I’m hoping by the end of the summer I’ll be in much better shape.  If I’m lucky maybe I’ll even be back to my pre-multiple miscarriage fitness level.  I hope.
  6. We are doing a modified paleo diet.  Mr. MPB loved Courtney’s idea to cook paleo at home but eat whatever we want when we are out, so we are giving it a try.  With the exception of milk in my chai tea latte’s we are cooking almost exclusively paleo at home.  It’s actually been a lot of fun trying all kinds of new recipes.  Did you know you can make pudding with a pureed cauliflower base and it’s actually not horrible?
  7. Our dog has recently stopped sleeping on the floor next to my side of the bed. She is now sleeping outside of Baby MPB’s room.  After 6 years of being our dogs main person, part of me is almost jealous.  Even though I miss her being close to me, it’s cute to see our dog and babies relationship develop.  Speaking of the dog, for no reason she just crawled under my desk – needless to say a small filing cabinet, garbage can, my feet and her 90lbs do not fit under my desk very well.
  8. Baby MPB has learned how to screech.  I cannot lie, it is driving me insane.  It’s the first thing he has done that irritates the heck out of me.  I desperately hope thi is a short phase and he will move on to more cute babbling soon.
  9. Family photos. We did infant photos when Baby MPB was 6 days old thanks to an awesome photographer who made room for us in her schedule with less then 24 hours notice while we were travelling.  How often are we supposed to do these?  Should we be doing them again soon?
  10. Tomorrow marks 6 weeks since by breast reduction surgery.  From a lifestyle perspective I am completely back to normal and considered healed.  Much to my surprise I’m still a bit bruised.  Apparently 6 weeks post surgery is the worst the scarring will ever look, and I can honestly say if it looks like this forever I’d still have no regrets.  But I am excited to see the scaring fad over the coming months.

  1. 1. If he is rolling…crawling and walking are going to come really fast!! Blink your eyes and they are walking past you!
    2. Give it a second and he will change his eating likes, dislikes, patterns, and you will not know what he wants. It is a fun journey *sarcasm*
    3. I have met friends through baby yoga classes…we have kids similar in age and like similar things so it works, but a friends wanted ad would be funny!
    5. I LOVE SPIN and miss it!
    6. We just finished a 30 day paleo cleanse. I love your idea of eating what you want out, but eating paleo in. I think i would eat out every meal LOL. Really though it is great and not that hard!
    7. I can’t wait for the day our dog sleeps with the babies. She is still in our room/bed, but I think once the babies are in a bed, she will be with them and they will be best of friends!
    9. As often as you want! We did newborn, then a family shoot (that came out so bad no one ever saw the pictures), and then one year. If it wasn’t so expensive, I would have done it monthly!!!

    Just my 2 cents!

    • I love your two cents! πŸ™‚
I too love spin and am so glad a studio opened 5 minutes from my house. It’s the only fitness I’ll pay for because it such an awesome workout, and no matter how hard I try it’s not the same on my own.
As for paleo, any tips of snack food? That’s my biggest struggle.

  2. I love that he rolls across the room! So fun! And yes baby proofing is happening over here too. And yay for spin classes! I’m an avid runner but I always feel like there is no better cardio than a spin class.

    • I much prefer cycling to running, but usually run because it’s free and doesn’t even require anything other then me. But I agree, there is no better cardio then a spin class. πŸ™‚

  3. I’d love to hear what others have to say about making friends at this point in life, and what you try. With our cross-country move and subsequent em-babying I am a little worried about this for us. There is one thing I’ve learned from making friends after moving multiple times, and that’s the old invite ’em over for food trick. People love food, and I got really good at making cakes and luring potential friends into our home. πŸ™‚

      • I’m with you on the food idea! Good thing Mr. MPB can cook, otherwise I’d invite people over and they’d only remember being sick the next day. πŸ™‚
I hear lots of people make friends through mommy and baby classes. So far, that hasn’t happened for me which I find a bit stranger because I am so social. I don’t get it.
If you come up with any more friend luring techniques please let me know!

  4. I know this is silly but I thought the thing about Baby MPB eating was a joke! Maybe because I’ve never “seen” him, in my head he’s eternally a newborn? Wow does time fly! (I also just read spaghetti, not spaghetti squash, and was like there’s no way he’s old enough for spaghetti unless she’s pureeing it! Which didn’t sound appetizing. Spaghetti squash sounds much better.) πŸ˜‚

For pro pics, I did newborn, family and baby alone at 6 months (which ended up working out to be a Xmas card, otherwise I may have done another for Xmas), and baby at one year. My photographers have been different each time but always really expensive so I think it will have to be yearly from now on, or twice yearly if we can swing it. Or a cheaper photographer, but I think I’d rather the expensive photography once a year than anything less quality wise. I’m weird about pictures though. I have a friend who uses someone far less pricy and she gets pics every two months!

    • I know right?! How is he getting so old already?! It’s fascinating watching him grow up, part of me wants time to stop and the other part of me just loves that he keeps growing and exploring the world. πŸ™‚
I take tonnes of photos of Baby MPB myself, but none of the three of us. So, I’m thinking we are going to do once a year photos too. I’m with you on paying for quality, if we are going to pay they had better be high quality.

  5. Amora’s screeching was short-lived, thankfully. As a photographer I recommend every 3 months for baby (new, 3,6,9, 1 year), but family is really up to you. We got family pictures taken when Amora was 6 weeks old, and I want to do another session soon but realistically it will probably be around the one year mark before we get to it!

    • I so hope the screeching is short lived in our house too!! πŸ™‚ Thanks for the thoughts on photography. It is pretty amazing how quickly they grow and change in the first year so I can see why people get them done more frequently in the first year.

  6. I’m pretty sure you can get photos whenever you want!

As far as making friends… as an adult, it really is hard. We moved to a new town a year ago and pretty much haven’t met anyone here, but my sister has met the vast majority of her friends through her children. As far as I know, it’s mostly through Mommy and me groups, and of course it helps that she’s not working so she can go to a lot of the daytime activities. We also both belong to a book group that a friend of ours started with other moms from her kid’s daycare, and even though the friend has moved away, the book club is still going strong!

    • Thanks for the ideas! I thought the mommy and baby classes would definitely cultivate some friendships, but it seems that the friendships don’t go outside of the classes. It’s a bit weird. I’m hoping with future classes we will meet some new people and maybe start building some friendships. πŸ™‚

  7. The screeching phase had lasted a while for us. Wyatt screeched all throughout Chapters last Friday. I’m so glad to finally catch up and see how well things are going in the MPB home

  8. Most of my good friends in this area moved away a few years ago. Which is hard, because I didn’t grow up here and don’t know a ton of people outside of work, and I don’t make friends easily. I have no advice for you on this one, but I know how you feel, and I’m sorry. Sounds like overall everything else is going great though!! I hope the screeching phase passes quickly for you!

    • It is so hard meeting new friends as adults! I’m very social so it’s such a surprise to me that it’s hard to meet people and build meaningful relationships. I guess I have my work cut out for me in the next few months as I’m determined to meet some people. πŸ™‚

      • Most of my friends are coworkers, but it seems like whenever I leave a job those people slowly fade out of my life. I guess that’s just life. I’m hoping that once Cadence is born that I will make new mommy friends through her. May be a few years, but it’s bound to happen, right!?!?

      • That’s part of my problem now, I work for myself so I don’t have people I work with to socialize with. It’s hard! I’m like you, I keep telling myself it will happen eventually.

  9. #7 melts my heart!! Dogs never seize to amaze me! She knows you love that baby and she’s helping you protect him. I think this shows her loyalty to you and Mr. MPB

  10. Making friends as an adult and not in an office has been intimidating for me! My best “new” friends I all met at mommy & me classes. If I enjoyed talking to someone in class I would exchange e-mails or phone numbers and arrange a play date. I would get so nervous doing this, but it has been well worth it!!

  11. That is so cute that your dog has taken up residence outside of baby MPB’s room! Glad things are going well…aside from the screeching!

  12. I love the bit about your dog! That’s really sweet. Glad that everything is going so well. It sounds like you are busy, but in a good way! X

  13. Go Baby MPB! It’s so fun to watch the creative ways they use to get around. Don’t worry about the eating- it will change quickly. Dumplin’ went from gagging on purΓ©es to wanting to only feed himself chunks of meat over the course of a week. Baby led weaning was what Dumplin’ wanted. He didn’t want us feeding him. He wanted to do it himself. I love spinning! I used to go to spin classes regularly before trying to have a baby. I loved the quad pump. We normally eat paleo-ish, aside from some added rice and the occasional dairy. I like the plan of Paleo at home and more freedom when out. You can make a pretty yummy (but healthy) Paleo chocolate pudding with chia seeds too!

    • Baby MPB has discovered attempting to feed himself actually means feeding the dog. He laughs and laughs and laughs as he drops food and the dog eats up everything and licks his hands. And then the dog ends up sick and we spend the night away dealing with the dog while the baby sleeps.
Anyways, when he does put food to his mouth he doesn’t actually swallow anything. But he loves playing. So right now is a bit of a game of helping him eat, letting him play, and trying to limit the dogs intake of Baby MPB food. I keep saying that I hope in a few weeks feeding is less of a chore and a bit more fun.
Spinning is a bit addictive for me. There is essentially nothing that makes me feel as good as a spin class workout.
I’m going to have to try a comparison of Chia seed vs cauliflower pudding. 😊

      • Yeah- we don’t allow the dogs in the kitchen when Dumplin’ is eating. Food is such a slippery slope for Juno, so we don’t even let it become a thing. Plus- feeding the dog is so fun for the babies that it would be so hard to break the habit! BLW is great but messy too. Dumplin’ also wasn’t swallowing anything but eventually did. Overlooked broccoli is great, as is overcooked zucchini for self-feeding and swallowing. It pretty much turns into mush as soon as they gum it.

      • We’ve also started limiting dog interactions while baby is eating. But I’ll admit i think the food is one of the main reasons the dog is starting to like the baby. So we are trying to balance the interaction to keep fostering their relationship.
Thanks for the zucchini idea! We have been trying overcooked broccoli and sweet potatoes. I’m going to try zucchini as soon as I can get to the grocery store next.

  14. I love spin! How cool to have a studio close by. Awesome!

Baby MPB is getting so big! I don’t quite know how o feel about that πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜πŸ˜ then again every new stage is my favourite anyway 😝

When did you start experimenting with solids?
