Family Visit

Our Easter visit with my family went well.  I was so distracted last week by the anniversary of my mom and sister’s death, work, an appointment with a plastic surgeon (more on that soon) and my car seat obsession, that I completely forgot to write about it.

It was a long day as we drove over 3 hours each way for the visit.  We intended to drive between feedings and just hoped Baby MPB would sleep most of the drive.  We planned to wake up early, but did not set an alarm clock since Baby MPB is essentially a little human alarm clock.

As expected, Baby MPB woke up bright and early.  He ate and we then we left right away.  After a quick stop by Starbucks we hit the highway fueled with caffeine.

He slept the entire way there and the entire way home!  It was perfect (except for the car seat worry).

Our visit was wonderful.  The Easter Bunny brought treats for all the kids in the family.  The older kids got lots of chocolate, treats and toys.  Baby MPB got books and shoes from the Easter Bunny.  It was a good thing the Easter bunny stopped by my parents house because we did nothing thinking that Baby MPB wont remember anyways.  (Epic mom fail?)

While we were there I also got a quick visit with one of my good friend from high school.  She’s actually the only person I’ve kept in touch with through the years.  We don’t see each other often enough, but every-time we do it’s like time doesn’t matter.  We had an amazing visit.  Her 5 year old daughter loved Baby MPB so much that all she wanted to do was hold him.  So my friend barely got to hold him.  It was adorable and just awesome!

Baby MPB was spoiled by love and snuggles.  His great-grandparents were so thrilled to finally meet him.  His Uncle who met him for the first time was so sweet.  His cousins were still enamored with him.  His grandparents clearly in love.  In fact, the only time I held him all day was to change a diaper.  And once that was done and I sat down with him, my dad came up from behind me and snatched him from me.  Honestly, I didn’t mind at all.  I am so pleased and thrilled that he is so loved by my family.  Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes and makes me laugh at how worried I was about an adopted child being accepted by our extended family.

Up next, our visit with Mr. MPB’s family.  My anxiety about flying and staying in someone else’s house over night is already ramping up.  But I am still hopeful it will be fun and we have strategies planned for me to keep my anxiety under-control while we are there (more on that tomorrow).

  1. I’m so glad it went well! Isn’t that a great feeling, knowing you did it and did it well? Traveling with babies can be very unpredictable, and you nailed it!

I’m getting my elective procedure done in 14 days and I cannot wait! I am so happy I’m doing it!!! You’re going to be glad you did this for you. 😊

  2. Glad to hear you had a good visit! I also did nothing for Easter, though the grandparents made up for it. Easter never used to be such a big deal when I was a kid but it’s turning into the next Christmas!

  3. Ahhhh…. those days when babe when sleep for entire car rides… and maybe beyond if you carry the car seat “the perfect way” into the house. That’s awesome! So happy to hear what a wonderful experience this was for you, and how loved your son is already, by many.
Also, save your $$ at holidays this first year. He will be spoiled by many and likely won’t have any interest in what he’s given anyway. It’s this awesome year of what you say and do, vs. not, won’t be remembered. It’s more for you and your memory-making.
What a special time!!! So happy for you.

  4. Yay! So happy things went so well and Baby MPB was loved up over the weekend. And definitely not a mom fail on not getting him anything. You’ll have plenty of years for that. 🙂
