I Fell Asleep

Our first full night away from Little MPB has come and gone.

The day away started with the arrival of my period.  Because why not ruin at least part of our evening away plans?

We left for the day right after Little MPB went down for his nap.  We decided it would be best for everyone if we put him down for his nap.

We had plans to attend a comedy show in a city a few hours from where we were staying all weekend.  So, as soon as Little MPB was asleep we drove to the city and checked into our hotel.  It was nice.  No reason to complain, other then mother nature’s horrible timing.

Our hotel was in a trendy part of the city, so we did a bit of window shopping and went out to dinner at a fancy restaurant.  We talked, we drank and we ate. It was lovely.

We had a bit more time before the show started so we went to an Irish pub that we love.  We enjoyed some live music.  It was lovely.

We began walking to the show, assuming we’d flag down a cab as we walked.  We couldn’t get a cab, so we walked.  Thankfully Mr. MPB had convinced me to wear my running shoes, even though they didn’t match my outfit.  And thankfully the rain had stopped. Again, it was lovely.

Our unexpected walk meant we arrived 15 minutes late.  It was as though the performers knew we were running late, as the show started right after we got to our seats.

As we watched, I slowly leaned over onto Mr. MPB’s shoulder, where I promptly fell asleep.

Yes, that’s right, at a comedy show that we booked months ago, in a venue that holds a few thousand people, in a seat that cost a few hundred dollars, I fell asleep.

Mr. MPB woke me up once.  I am pretty sure I watched a few more minutes of the show, and then promptly put my head back on his shoulder and went right back to sleep.  Evidently, the show wasn’t that good or maybe I just needed more sleep after waking up at 5am for work everyday last week?

After the show, we decided to walk back to our hotel and enjoy the nice evening together. We stopped at another pub where I declared that I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore.  So, much to Mr. MPB’s disappointment, we went back to our hotel room at 10:30pm.  I slept until 8am.  It was glorious.

We enjoyed a leisurely morning – we showered, we ate breakfast, we went to a local farmer’s market, all before 11am – it’s amazing what you can get done without a 2 year old in tow.

We got back to Little MPB just in time to put him down for a late nap.  When we arrived, he literally dropped the toy in his hand and ran straight into my arms.  When Mr. MPB tried to take him for a hug, he basically climbed out of Mr. MPB’s arms to get back to me.  It was the most perfect hello I’ve ever received.

.

It turns out for our first night away, neither of us were consumed with worry.  We both knew Little MPB was safe and having fun.  Apparently he woke up 20 minutes into his afternoon nap, and stayed up late playing with his cousins.  But when he did go to bed, he slept through the night.

As for us adults, even Mr. MPB agreed that the comedy show wasn’t the best show we’ve ever been too.  But, we did have a great time as we enjoyed our adult dinner out and our evening walk through the city.  And, clearly, I thoroughly enjoyed catching up on some sleep.
