Top Ten Reason I Need A Kid

  1. I love the zoo.  Like really love the zoo!  Walking around the zoo without a kid is probably going to raise some eyebrows at some point.  A kid will justify a yearly membership and constant visits so I need a kid to help me belong.
  2. I’m getting too much sleep.  I am simply too well rested, especially compared to most of our friends who are busy raising children, evidently they don’t sleep much these days and sometimes resent me for this.
  3. My crafting skills are currently just not up to snuff.  I think a kid will help me improve my glue, glitter and crayon skills.
  4. My car is simply way too clean.  In fact, asides from an extra pair of high heels, one might think that it’s never used.  A kid will clearly make my car less attractive to a thief.
  5. I have no real reason to schedule anything.  I can go to Spectre or Mockingjay or out for dinner or even take a quick weekend escape on a whim with virtually no planning.  I really need to learn to follow a schedule better, and a kid will help me with that.
  6. My house, it’s pretty much immaculate.  Everything has a place and stays there.  I could use a toddler sized lesson is mess and disorganization.
  7. I can shower whenever I please (and interruptions are most welcome, because it means my husband is joining).  I really should learn to have quicker showers to help do my part for the environment, and a kid will do that for me and the environment.
  8. I eat all my meals warm, in fact sometimes I even burn my mouth.  A kid, and their incessant need for attention, will prevent possible microwaved pizza mouth burns.  Really, a kid will improve my personal safety.
  9. I can take my eyes of our dog.  She has free reign of the house and there are no worries related to anyone’s co-existence with all her 90lbs and giant teeth.  Supervising a kid co-existing with our dog will keep me on my toes.  And, clearly I need practice being observant just in case ever decide to become a covert spy.
  10. Really, my life is just too easy.  I need a kid to mix things up and teach me a thing or two about challenge.

Please, let this adoption wait end soon!  I’m ready to be a mom already!

      • I used to have an immaculate home. Everything had its place and it would drive me NUTS to leave dishes in the sink overnight, or something on the floor. I’ve learned to be okay with living with some mess. I had to for my own sanity’s sake. I am sure you will, too!

      • My husband helped me get over dishes in the sink overnight and cloths on the floor as I took the approach of if you cannot beat him then join him. I refused to clean up after him and i refused to nag constantly. So hopefully a kid will do the same and help me adjust to plastic toys everywhere. ☺

  1. I got envious reading some of these. Gosh darn you….I want to have a clean car and house more than anything. Something funny I heard from a friend was “cleaning the house with children inside is like brushing your teeth with oreos”. I totally laughed my behind off. I am kind of a neat freak, like you everything has a place and I like things neat and tidy. Children really crush this down. I feel like consistency will pay off as they get a little older though.

  2. Aww this was cute! I miss a lot of these things haha. Especially sleep, going to the movies, showering, and not on your list but most of all- going out for dinner with ease!

    • I’m so excited for the day that I miss sleep, movies, showering and going to dinner with ease! And yet, just like you, I know I’ll miss all these things too. I hope you are doing well, I think of you often! 🙂

  3. Funny you should use Spectre as your movie example; when I was still pregnant I told my husband we would go see Spectre as a movie date after baby came. We are going this weekend, after talking about making it happen since it came out. We’ve got his mom coming to babysit and we’ll have to teach her the bedtime routine, ect. Takes a lot of planning now! Your time will come, when you have a lack of free time 🙂

    • We actually went to Spectre last night (which helped give me the idea for this post) and are going to go see Mockingjay next week (hopefully). Have fun on your evening out!! I’m sure in some ways it will be nice and yet also a bit weird to leave your little one.

  4. Haha. This was actually great perspective for me. Just this morning I was missing the days when I didn’t have to plan my shower down to the second. Except I don’t actually miss those days. Not really.

    • I’m sure there are moments when the flexibility/freedom of life before baby sounds good – like when you want just a few more seconds in a warm shower! But, I hope I’ll be just like you with not really missing it all that much. 🙂

      • Last night, I was up with her at 10, 12, 1:30, 3, 4, and finally 5. It was the same the night before. I had to actively remind myself each time how badly I wanted this! Lol

  5. What’s wonderful about your list is that it’s all reversible. Some day soon, you’ll look back on this and wish your house and car were clean again, that sleep and showering were abundant, etc. And then…. Your kid will be easier and things start getting back to orderly. It’s wonderful!

    • Ha! I suspect you are right! And, I also suspect as much as i want the mess of a toddler, I do think the mess is going to drive me crazy. Yet, somehow I think it serves me right as I was a very mess kid and I’m pretty positive it drove my mom crazy!

  6. Too cute!! Though I’m not sure about the planning one. Most of my friends with kids don’t plan anything, because they’re afraid if they do then they will have to cancel. So you may not get that wish lol!
PS~ The zoo here is awesome, and plenty of people go there without kids! Including B and me!!
