I Now Have a Plan for Taking the World By Storm

I’ve been keeping a secret. The secret related to how I am going to start to take the world by storm. It’s kinda scary to be sharing my plan with the world, but I’ve decided it’s time now that a few other pieces in my life have fallen together over the last few weeks to enable me to make it happen. And by putting it out there for the whole world to see, it somehow becomes a bit more real.

I am writing my first book

I’ve been thinking about it for a few months and have started working on it.

I love to read memoirs and I think I can turn my life into one. I firmly believe my life story is a story worth sharing.

I know absolutely no-one in the publishing industry. I do not have an editor. I do not have a book deal. But, I have time, passion, work ethic, and energy. And, while I may not be the world’s best writer; I know that with some effort, hard work and a good editor, I can do it.

I have no visions of becoming the next J.K. Rowling or John Grisham. I do not expect that I will make tonnes of money by writing, but thankfully my husband has a pretty good career that makes a decent income so that’s doesn’t have to be the point.

My plan of action right now has two main steps:

  1. Continue writing. I figure this is a critical step to getting published.
  2. At the same time I’ve started asking everyone I know if they know anyone in publishing. I’m hoping to us a connection to turn this into reality. So far, I’ve completely struck out. But, it’s early. I still have time.

So, my request to the blogging world:

  • If you think my writing is decent or if you see potential and you are in the editing or publishing industry please reach out to me.  (My contact information is available in the page entitled “Contact”).
  • If you know anyone in the editing and publishing industry, please put me in touch with them. Or recommend they check out my blog to see if they might be interested.
  • Words of encouragement and constructive criticism are always welcome.
  • Suggestions about how to get more connected with editors or publishers are also welcome.

I want to make a positive difference in people’s lives.

I want to contribute to the world in a meaningful way.

And, I am confident that this is my way forward.

  1. I have been in the works of this for myself as well. I’ve started and stopped writing my memoir multiple times. It’s so hard to go back to the beginning and relive to write it all down. I wish you luck!

  2. I just finished my second draft of a similar memoir-style project. After starting my writing over two years ago, I found it to be much tougher than I even expected, but so rewarding. As I hope to make it publish-worthy soon, I am so proud of what I have done. Interestingly enough, for me it wasn’t revisiting the events that were the hardest (although there were days that tears accompanied my words) but rather just doing the writing. I give authors a ton of credit. It is hard stuff. That being said, best wishes to you and your endeavor. Reaching out to others, spreading our stories, grief, and empathy will break the silence of what we go through. Anyone who has the bravery to share deserves sincere admiration.

      • Thanks! My blog posts (mostly) are the second draft rewrites. I actually just posted the final one the other day. I look forward to reading more of your posts!

  3. I have been working on a book for a while now too, but so far haven’t done anything with it. At this point it’s mostly just for me right now, but maybe down the road I’ll try to do something with it.

Can’t wait to see how you do and can’t wait to read it when you get it published! Not sure if you’ve considered this already, but the great thing about your blog is you already have a place you can publish your first copy! And then from there it will be easy to share it with potential print publications. Sending you lots of positive wishes this works out! And then when you get published, you can inspire me to get my book out there too😃

    • Thanks! Your excitement is contagious! Some of the first drafts have been in my blog, but so far very little has made its way onto here. But, I’m sure once I start focusing on it more, I will start sharing excerpts on here.

For me, the idea of publishing is more daunting then actually writing, so that will be an interesting bridge to cross!

I would also love to read yours when you are ready!

  5. I wrote a novel once but after fulfilling that dream and reading it with some hindsight to recognize how awful the execution was (I still think the idea was okay), I never did anything with it My first fertility acupuncturist asked me if I ever considered changing careers to dedicate myself to writing (part of my career is writing, it’s just not “fun” ;-)) but I have never considered it a real option for mostly financial but also confidence issues. I’m so thrilled for you to be in a position to embrace your dream and go after it. Yay you!

    • Thanks! I too write professionally, but it is a much different style of writing. So, I get the confidence thing! It’s a pretty big change for me, so we will see where it all ends up.
