#100happydays – Days 36 Through 42

Here is my sixth week of #100happydays.

Day 36 – August 11, 2014: Today was a rather blah day. Nothing especially happy happened, and probably more importantly, nothing especially unhappy happened either. So, when my husband informed we now have red tomatoes in our garden, it seemed like the perfect simple happy day photo. A small moment of happiness on a rather chill day.

Day 37 – August 12, 2014: We had some friends over for dinner tonight. So, to celebrate an evening with friends, I took this picture of the giant kale salad that I made. This is our absolute favourite summer salad, some may even say we are addicted to it.

Day 38 – August 13, 2014: Today we welcomed some relatives who live in Toronto to stay with us for the night as they are doing a Western Canada road trip visiting various family members. Years ago, after my mom and sister died, they was amazingly supportive of me and I always looked forward to when my Dad would ship me off to their house every summer to visit. Not only did we have a great evening catching up, but we also now have two more people supporting us through our current struggles. So to celebrate a happy evening gathering, I took a photo of everyone’s shoes gathered at the front door.

Day 39 – August 14, 2014: My Great Aunt and Uncle were essentially substitute Grandparents for me, as mine had all passed away by the time I was 12. Needless to say, I love these two individuals and treasure the positive influences they have had and continue to have on my life. They live several hundred kilometers away from us, but by some odd coincidence, my Great Uncles 80th birthday party was being held within a relatively easy driving distance from us (1.5 hours away). So, my husband left work early and we made the trip to celebrate with our extended family.  About 20 relatives from all over North America were there, some which I have not seen in 17 years! So, I think this photo from the end of the night with some of the empty wine bottles and a happy Gerbera Daisy (my favorite flower) was the perfect happy day photo.

Day 40 – August 15, 2014: It’s Friday which means another weekend camping in the mountains for us! So, off we went to enjoy fresh air and majestic mountain scenery.  This weekend we decided to drive the Icefields Parkway Highway 93 that links Jasper and Lake Louise.  It is supposed to be one of the most amazing drives in the world, and we have to agree!  It was the first time either of us have done the drive, and we thought it was just stunning, even though it was cloudy and rainy most of the weekend.  Here is my favourite photo from a long day of driving – Bridal Veil Falls.

Day 41 – August 16, 2014: We spent the day driving from various scenic spots – again, my husband’s broken ankle is dictating that we spend our time driving around rather than hiking. But, we are determined to enjoy our summer adventures even with him hobbling around. At one of the stops, I found this handwritten sign sitting on the ground beyond the handrails. I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Day 42 – August 17, 2014: We woke up Sunday morning after a night of torrential rain and a sick puppy. I stayed dry thanks to my husband who took the 4am emergency puppy bathroom break.  We enjoyed a campsite breakfast of eggs and bacon, and then started the drive back to the city. This photo is one of our last stops as we left the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

    • I feel like our tomatoes are slowly becoming a weekly feature in my 100 days because apparently I too am obsessed with them! My husband grows them, and I eat them. 🙂
When you do start growing them, he tells me the trick to getting lots of tomatoes is in the early season pruning.

    • Now so do we!
Puppy is still sick unfortunately, but she’s now on a rice and ground beef diet and if that doesn’t fix her up then it’s off to the vet we go. 😦
