The Most Ridiculously Stupid Man-Made Creation Ever

Can some one please explain to me the point of daylight savings time? I do not get why twice a year we mess with our clocks on the wall and our internal body clocks.  I don’t see why we do something that is linked to increase health problems and increased car accidents.  I just don’t get it.  (I should point out that Mr. MPB has tried for years to explain this to me and I just don’t get it).

So, pre-baby, I never understood it’s point.

And now, post-baby, I seriously don’t understand it and would even say I despise it!  This kid is simply having none of it and will not accept an extra hour of sleep as a good thing.  Instead, he is now starting our day between 4:30 and 5:30 (which used to be 5:30 and 6:30).

I simply do not believe anyone should be awake at 4:30 am unless they are catching an international flight to some amazing destination.  And even then, they should go back to sleep once on the plane!

And to make me extra frustrated with this insane time change, so far Mr. MPB has decided he doesn’t agree with Baby MPB’s determination not to fall back and therefore isn’t helping a whole heck of a lot.  And, when he does attempt to help, he is almost unbearably grouchy about it.

So, now at 4:30am I have a wide awake baby who refuses to go back to sleep and a grouchy husband or a sleeping husband.

It’s only 3 days of it, but I can assure you, I’m not enjoying it.  So, I’ve decided Daylight Savings Time is the most ridiculously stupid man-made creation ever.

  1. Ugh I hear you! I’ve never liked DST but I was dreading it with our 2 month old who also liked waking up around 5am!!! One thing that helped us prepare is keeping him up an extra 15 min every few days and letting him sleep an extra 15 min in the morning so by the time DST rolled around he was “adapted ” . For example bedtime was 7pm so for a few days we pushed to 7:15, then 7:30, then 7:45, then at 8 this past Saturday. Now we are back to his 7pm bedtime and he’s waking up at about the same time as before. I’m sure you could do it on the back and keep him up 15 min later now? Unless he’s already getting to bed at the right time? Either way good luck. I’ve been a proponent of abandoning DST for years! I hate that I went to walk our dog at 5:30 yesterday and it was dark!!!

    • I’m so glad your incremental change has helped! Truthfully, we completely forgot about dst until we woke up on Sunday and realized our phones didn’t match our house clocks! We’ve been trying a 30 minute later bedtime since then but it just isn’t working. I’m hoping one morning he’ll just magically figure it out? I can always hope, right? 😊

  2. I hear you. I lucked out because my daughter used to wake up at 7am and now she wakes up at 6am, but I have to get up at 5am so things are still pretty status quo for me. Unfortunately my baby has always woken up whenever she felt like it despite the time changes. Just glad she is sleeping through the night and not waking up at midnight and 3am anymore.

  3. I’m sick now, and I totally blame daylight savings time for it. That and the weather we are getting in texas at the moment. All my mommy friends lament dst too, so you are in good company. Also, I early voted, so today I’m just focusing on getting better and looking forward to seeing the outcome tonight.

  4. Sorry about the early wake up! No fun! I actually never thought about DST and kids sleep. Totally makes sense!

I voted! Thank goodness for vote by mail!

  5. Give it two more nights and I bet he’s reset. My kids STILL need 4 full days and nights to adjust. I reminded myself of this this year so that I wouldn’t end up angry for 4 days like every year of parenting prior to this one. It sucks. NO ONE TELLS YOU ABOUT THIS UNTIL IT’S HAPPENED.

Hang in there… It’s going to get better!

  6. Ugh, I hear that. Sleep in our house has been far to little lately. Not only did we deal with a 4:30 am wake up (our usual before DST was 6:30 – 7) so that was even earlier than normal. We also had the pleasure of spending 1.5 hrs trying to get her to sleep, and between 1am and 2am getting her back to sleep. I’m going to cry when we have to do this all over again in the spring.
