Christmas Is Fast Approaching
How in the world is it already December 21st? Christmas Eve is literally 3 days away. 2016, a new year, is only 11 days away.
I’m a bit shocked how quickly December has passed us by. Yet, when I think about the fact that we’ve been working countless hours, we’ve both been sick with a near deadly man cold and in our spare time we’ve been doing a major home reno nearly entirely on our own, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I always find when I’m busy, time just flies by.
With the exception of one string of Christmas lights in a tree outside, we have not decorated for Christmas this year. And now with only 3 days left until Christmas Eve I will admit that I miss our Christmas tree. But, I’m still not regretting my decision not to decorate. First, I feel like putting the effort into decorating would have just been one too many things for me to do this month. We’ve been going 24/7 for a few weeks now and I just don’t think I would have enjoyed the process of decorating.
And second, I think the most important reason I am okay with not decorating is, that I have still thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas spirit. All month long I’ve had some fun putting together an epic gift basket for an amazing friend and her partner. I am so excited to give it to them because I think they are going to love it! And, we’ve also been to a few Christmas parties and enjoyed the decorating efforts of others. And of course we’ve been enjoying a few good Christmas themed meals too.
As we are not doing anything with either of our out of town families for Christmas, our plan for Christmas Eve is to make a nice dinner for the two of us with some sort of different and creative protein. This is a bit of a tradition for us because every year we do something different. Last year we cooked a goose, the year before a pheasant, and before that a duck. This year I’m thinking Partridge, if I can find one. And on Christmas Day my amazing friend has asked us to join her family for dinner.
Without the Christmas decorations it’s a very a different Christmas then what we’ve become accustomed to, but we’ve still been having fun and enjoying ourselves. And I have to admit, I’m exhausted from everything so far this month and so I’m already slightly excited to not have to un-decorate.

I almost didn’t decorate this year either. It’s a lot of work to set up and tear down. But my hubs talked me into it. It sounds like we’ll be seeing some DELISH pics of your feast for Christmas Eve?! I love that you don’t need the decor to feel the spirit of Christmas. I feel like this month has flown by too and I don’t have nearly the same amount of stuff going on as you. Home renovations are so much work, I am tired just thinking about it. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and I look forward to hearing what you decide to do for the Christmas Eve dinner! Sounds adventurous!

Hoping you and the Mr. have a wonderful Christmas. I didn’t feel like decorating this year, but it is to Hope so we put up our tree this weekend. 🙂

I’m glad that you are enjoying and celebrating this season, even though you haven’t decorated. I agree with you, the post-holiday clean up is annoying and you definitely aren’t going to want to deal with that. So, really, it sounds like a win all around. 🙂 And next year, you can do it UP with the decorating!

I totally agree! Not having to take down decorations is almost worth not decorating. I equate the disassembling of holiday decorations to a hangover. I also tend to want to take them down asap. Sounds like you’ve been enjoying the holiday spirit despite the lack of decor. I love that you guys try a new meat dish every year and I have to say you are way more adventurous than I am! Hope your holiday week is lovely!

I can’t believe it is Christmas already either! 21st is my kids birthday so we have just got through that, and we are moving house very very soon as well. We dug out our little tree and remembered our lights died last year… There were none left in the shops so our tree is lacklustre. Next year we will be doing it our new home – then we will go for it!

I feel like our stuff will be staying up longer than normal after the holiday this year. With me hopefully about to start a new cycle, between that and work I just don’t think I’ll be feeling like dealing with it! If you like, I can bombard your email with pictures from my house daily lol!!
PS~ Did you get my card? I have no idea what the turnaround time is for mail between here and there…Hope you get it before Christmas!

We couldn’t find a partridge, but we did find kangaroo. Which being from Canada is a new one for us. Mr. MPB is already busy looking up recipes.

I didn’t decorate this year either. I kind of regret it but kind of love it. I can stay in my anti-winter denial. Inside at least. 😉
