One Lovely Blog Award

I have been nominated for the One Lovely Blog Award by Waiting for the Bump, The Cat Bed, The Chronicles of the Unfruitfulness, Laughs N’ Love, The Boy Who Never Lived, Drunk Storks, Living and Traveling in Africa and Plan B Chronicles.  Thank you so much! I was really surprised by the nominations and am also truly honoured!  Please know that I absolute love each one of your blogs, and love that you are part of my life!  Thank you for everything!

20140915 - One Lovely Blog Award

Rules for winning this award are very simple, here they are:

1. Thank the person who has nominated you. Provide a link to his/her blog.
2. List the rules.
3. Include 7 facts about yourself.
4. Nominate 15 other bloggers and let them know that they have been nominated.
5. Display the award logo and follow the blogger who nominated you.

Here are 7 facts about myself:

  1. I have had 3 smart phones in less than a year and a half due to my husband’s desire for me to have the best phone – iPhone 5, Samsung S3, Blackberry Z30. The Z30 is by far the best! I love my Blackberry so he’s not allowed to sell this one!
  2. In my university days I spent a few summers living and working in Whistler, Canada (home of the 2010 Winter Olympics).  Part of me will always feel at home in Whistler.
  3. I am currently reading The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan. It’s a compilation of short stories, so it is different then my normal type of book, but it’s pretty good.
  4. I am a Pisces, but I don’t really know anything about astrology so I have no idea what it really means to be a Pisces.
  5. I will always write/spell in Canadian/British English. This means there is a u in words like colour, honoured and neighbour.
  6. I love exploring cities. I love the way they are designed; the way I feel walking down different streets; the various interpretations of public art; the first sights from the air when flying into a city; and, the different smells and sounds. I love everything about cities.
  7. I lived in New Zealand for few months when I was 18.  I wore a uniform; went to a catholic school; learned to play rugby; and, met some amazing people.

While, I am humbled each time I receive such a nomination, I always have an internal struggle as I decide whether or not to participate in these chain-letter type blog posts. But, once again I have decided to participate because I take it as an opportunity to share blogs that I love. Some make me laugh; some make my cry; some make me question life and/or myself; some inspire me and some do all of the above.

So, if you see your name below, know that I consider you and your blog truly lovely and consider this your nomination. And, if your name is not on the list and I follow your blog, I absolutely adore your blog too so feel free to participate if you want to!

And in no particular order, here are some of the blogs that I think are absolutely lovely:

  1. Aw, thanks for the nomination. I think you’re lovely too (I must confess I’ve never heard of this award before so now I must go look up its history because… well, I’m me, right?).

I share your fascination with cities and the marvel of entering a new one. (I wish I could look out the plane windows when landing for more than a millisecond but since my head injury doing that brings me immediately to the edge of barfdom – not a fun place to be in a landing or taxiing aircraft!) Knowing more about you makes me appreciate why you were so taken with that public art about which you posted last month and the ways in which you appreciated it. Nice!

I thought you were going to say you went through 3 phones in a year because you’re really clumsy, in which case we would have one more thing in common. I have gone through 3 phones in 2 years because I have a small person who likes to (a) drop them; (b) slip them into a hot bath (mine) when I’m not looking to test out the allegedly waterproof “Lifeproof” case that got installed on phone #2; and (c) don’t talk about it, I can’t afford another replacement phone! 😉 FWIW, the Lifeproof case was waterproof. But not heat-proof. 😦

    • I too had never heard of the award before, but decided to participate because it’s always fun to learn more about other bloggers, and to share blogs I love. I was so happy to see that you chose to participate!
As for the phones – too bad that each time you’ve ended up with a new phone due to damage – although I love that your little one is testing the product, but I’m not paying hte bills so I suspect I find this cuter then you. As for us, it’s worked out well for us so far because my husband always buys and sells them on kijiji, so we aren’t going broke with his addiction to upgrading my phone. We haven’t made money doing it, but at least we haven’t spent $600+ per phone.

      • I agree about the awards being a way to get to know more about each other and about new blogs. As for the phone, I thought the bath event was funny (more so after I found out it was only going to cost me about $100). I would never have thought of buying phones on kijiji. That’s funny!

    • Thanks! I just noticed your blog isn’t on my list – I’m going to add it now, because I truly find your blog lovely. Actually, lovely is such an understatement for how I feel about your blog. 🙂

  2. Thank you kindly for the nomination! It’s great to learn more about you–sounds like you’re well traveled, which I admire. My husband is a “techy” and always pushes me towards upgrading my phone, although never more than once a year! XOXO

    • I’m pretty sure I no longer have a vote in my future phones, but I really don’t mind so much because he seems to enjoy the search for the perfect slightly used, but in good condition phone. And, since each time he is able to sell my old phone, I don’t mind. Although, if I have to restart candy crush from the beginning one more time, I might get angry. 🙂

  3. Awww, Thanks so much for the nomination!! This is my first one. 🙂 I am also a pisces…the one thing I know is that we’re supposed to be creative and I am not at all…I can’t even draw a straight line with a ruler, lol.

  5. Thank you for the nomination! I love how your husband is a techie like me. I currently have the Galaxy S5 and just made my husband upgrade too. I would love to get a new vehicle with the new touch screens, but it’s way to expensive to upgrade your car! 🙂 Here’s to Canadian spelling… it’s such a pet peeve of mine. I always notice the difference.

    • My husband debated moving from the Samsung S3 to the S5, but he decided to go for the blackberry Z30. Honestly, I love it!
And I hear you on the upgrading to a new car. My car isn’t that old and I still love it, but I could totally use a brand new car with all the bells and whistles, but for some reason my husband is not interested in buying and selling cars constantly. (Funny enough we bought it so we would have a family car – oh, the decisions we made based on the presumed easy path to parenthood). 🙂

  6. Thank you so much for the nomination! I loved all your updates, especially your comment bout British/Canadian spelling. It really made me smile. I thought I would always use British/Canadian spelling too, but after 7 years living in the US and mostly working with US clients, I have had to change this. It makes me so sad!

    • I love you and your blog, so it was an easy call to highlight your blog! 🙂
I get why you changed, it makes complete sense. But as I am still living and working in Canada, I can keep using Canadian spelling.
Funny enough though, when I was a learning to spell as a kid I only used the American way because I could never remember where the u went – colour or coulor? So I quickly learned that if I just left the ‘u’ out entirely I would get it right, and the over achiever in me cared more about my grade then I did about learning to spell the Canadian way. I clearly was not very good at spelling!!

  8. You so deserve this award. AND a huge thank you for nominating me. I’m always so surprised and honoured exactly like in your description. Point one also made me chuckle. My Hubby is also a gadget freak but he doesn’t get a say in my phone, accept for lately when I got my iPhone and stopped using my ghetto-fabulous retro flip phone due to his continuous comments that dumb-dumb phones will be phased out 😉

I can’t tell you how much value I’ve gotten from your posts and the topics you choose to write about. I’m so happy to have found your blog, it’s given me so much. You definitely deserve this award! And, I love that you lived in New Zealand! I desperately want to go visit there 🙂
